I go by Petrel (among other names you might know), this is my perpetually under construction personal site. I am in my late 20s and use they/she pronouns. I am a Ph.D. candidate in biology, and spend a lot of my time thinking about parasites and their hosts.
I am an artist, digital and otherwise. I've drawn all sorts of things, but in recent years I've been more focused on my own characters and those of my friends. I also am an avid photographer and spend a lot of time looking at things outside.
Why a personal site?
I am notoriously bad, for several personal reasons, at keeping up with social media. I have no illusions personal sites will "replace" social media, but this is an alternative where I can express my hobbies in a more long-form, creative way. It's easy to send someone a link on here so they can see what I'm up to. And, it's fun to have a project like this to gnaw on. I've learned a lot about coding! My favorite musicians are Sufjan Stevens, Joanna Newsom, and Owen Pallett, especially unreleased rarities in their catalogues. I'm open to many genres, but I do have a place in my heart for sad indie music evidently.

Sitely
I've been coding on and off since 2009, when I wanted to make petpages on Neopets for my art and writing. I'm certainly no expert though despite all that, I spend a lot of my time studying and pulling apart other's codes to learn. My site is created without the use of generative AI, which means the code is quite unintuitive, and perhaps not as efficient, but it's made fully by a (learning) human being.
